In Luke chapter 14, by healing a man who had dropsy on the Sabbath, Jesus revealed the will of God, who treasures life and mercy more than religious form. Then He told those who chose the high places at a feast to humble themselves, and taught them not to choose and entertain only those who had the ability to repay, but to serve the poor and the marginalized freely. Only when we lay down our own righteousness and the heart that seeks the reward of people can we rightly receive and show the grace of God.
