The subject of the word we will share today is becoming a disciple of Jesus. It is a matter of how one becomes a disciple, and looking at the text, becoming a disciple of Jesus is not an easy thing. Being saved by faith is easy, but becoming a disciple seems tremendously hard. “Now great multitudes went with Him. And He turned and said to them” (Luke 14:25). The Lord taught many things through some occasion or event. Jesus was going along the way with a multitude. At that time He looked at that multitude and spoke. “If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple. And whoever does not bear his cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple” (Luke 14:26–27).
