Today’s word is the word that if we keep asking strongly without ceasing, laying a certain problem before the Lord, the Lord hears that prayer and answers it. We human beings, too, when we receive a request, often let it pass as long as we can, or just answer that we understand and leave it at that. But if the other person asks strongly and asks again, we cannot help settling it quickly, if only because we are bothered. Today’s text is saying exactly that. When our saints pray before God, there are times when, though a certain thing absolutely must be accomplished, they try a few times and then give up when there is no answer. To such people as us the Lord said, “though he will not rise and give to him because he is his friend, yet because of his persistence he will rise and give him as many as he needs” (Luke 11:8). He is saying that if we ask strongly, the Lord cannot help answering.
